The Japanese Matsutake mushroom emerges after devastation, from a decaying environment. Anthropologist Anna Tsing and her book “The Mushroom at the End of the World: On the Possibility of Life in Capitalist Ruins” have deeply inspired me. For me, the resilient Matsutake mushroom has become a metaphor for surviving in difficult times. With a view toward living with and after trauma, I have developed a method in which expressions can arise in a non-linear way. Through these artworks, I engage in dialogue both non-verbally and verbally. Processing profound experiences is an unpredictable process, a play between chaos and control.
